This is one of the most complimentary articles I have ever read, and written by the enemy, but a very smart enemy. I miss the days of the Avs being at least good. I still remember working in Co-Springs (dirt speck of a town, kinda reminds me of Detroit, really) in ‘02 and watching the Wings drill the avs 7-0 in game 7. Thing I remember the most was the lack of remorse in town in the days after the game. It was as if they forgot they had a hockey team. It’s what i tell all my ATL-Braves brethern in past days when they’d win the div and that’s it, they didn’t really seem to care once it was over. When the Wings lose in Detroit, or for any Detroit fan like myself who doesn’t live there anymore, it’s like the world is over until the next season…and with the Wings, there really always is a next year. #12 on tap tonite.

Yeah, I remember a time when we used to hate you guys, too. Back when the Avs were an occasional threat to our beloved Wings. I remember the anticipation of yet another bloodbath as our teams squared off on the ice, delight we took in watching Lemieux turtle under the force of McCarty’s blows, or sensing the seething behind Roy’s mask after another save he couldn’t make. On the other hand, I remember feeling gutted after every loss to you guys. A loss to any other team never stung as much as losing to the Avalanche. A great rivalry while it lasted.

Your blog is so good that I almost hate them and they have been my favorite team since Nedomansky was their best player. Buck up. Even if your players don’t really scare us anymore, your uniforms still do! Great Blog. I’m bookmarking you even thought you have that awful logo at the top.

We Wings fans don’t hate you. It’s funny, I’ve driven across the country many times. The only place you see bumper stickers that say “Red Wings Suck!” is in Colorado. You would never see an “Avs Suck!” bumper sticker in Michigan. Interesting…
