Report: An offensive defenseman without the offense…Inconsistent and prone to bad decisions in his own end…Is more physical than people think…Could have been a pretty good defensive player, but the boneheaded errors like passing to players on the other team just don’t stop…Seemed to have particularly bad communication with Vaananen – neither seemed to have a clue what the other was going to do on the ice…Was rather invisible on offense this year, especially the powerplay (5 points in 33 games)…No point in going past that…If he’s not providing offense, there’s no reason for him to be in the lineup…Okay, actually he was a good penalty killer, which seems contradictory to the rest of his game.
Fast Fact: Brisebois’ -5 +/- was worst among

Outlook: Brisebois is gone like a freight train, gone like yesterday. There’s talk that Brisebois won’t be back at all after having back surgery this spring. That would be a shame, as I think he’s still got some hockey in him. However, even if he does return to the NHL, it almost definitely won’t be with the Avalanche, and I have to admit I’m glad to be able to type that.

agreed…with everything.
Goodbye, so long, farewell. But his nice $3M cap hit is gone too
I’m not entirely sure we are even because Roy did so much for the Avalanche. But the karma Gods of the Habs are getting closer to even with Colorado after the fiascos of Brisebois and Jose. If the Avalanche acquire Souray just assume that Montreal has compromising photographs of Lacroix.
Brisebois became everything Montreal fans warned us he would be. I simply couldn’t believe any defensive player could be that bad, especially one that was good enough to play for and win the Stanley Cup. I bought the story that the media pressure and booing were affecting his play in Montreal.
Brisebois was just a huge contradiction as a player. When he had the freedom of time and was skating up ice in transition he made horrible decisions. A time that a defenseman should be the most comfortable and least prone to make mistakes. Instead, when Brisebois was on the PK or working in the corners he played his best hockey. Granted, it wasn’t great hockey but it was Brisebois’ best. The PK worked for him I think because he played the same dysfunctional type of hockey that Skrastins played, and that was containment hockey. Keep players to the outside and poke check up the boards. Only Brisebois didn’t/couldn’t block shots like Skrastins and he didn’t/couldn’t play in front of his own net.
Lesson learned here? I’d say that no matter what, you cannot blame a player’s performance on their local media or pressure. If they are good hockey players they will be as good in Florida as they are in Toronto.
