10.08.08Parker IS on the IRTurns out, my little scoop yesterday about Scott Parker was correct. The Sheriff will start the season on the IR with concussion symptoms (it's worth clicking the the link just for the picture of Parker). Just throwing this out there: could the Avs be eyeing someone on the waiver wire? It seems odd to IR Parker now, since they don't need the roster space.

10.07.08Avalanche make final cutsThe final two players have been sent to Lake Erie to get the Avalanche down to the 23-man limit. One I was expecting, the other, like Willsie, caught me by surprise. TJ Hensick and Per Ledin have been demoted to Lake Erie. I figured Hensick would have a tough time making the team, not because of his play this preseason, but because there just isn't a place for him to play at the moment. 10.07.08Willsie cutBrian Willsie has been reassigned to Lake Erie. I'm a bit surprised; I thought Willsie's versatility was going to win him a spot. Unless I'm wrong, Willsie will need to clear waivers. The Avs roster is now down to 25, so there's 2 more cuts to go.

10.06.08Avalanche preseason statsI was curious to see preseason stats for the Avs, and I wasn't able to find any. So, I threw them together (rather hastily I might add) in excel. I didn't include the Burgundy and White scrimmage, and stats don't exist for the Frozen Fury game, so these are just for the remaining 5 preseason games. And especially considering the hastily part, it definitely shouldn't be considered official: forwards defensemen All the TOI numbers are averages. The rest of the numbers are totals. 10.05.08Meet MY 2008 Colorado AvalancheThe Avs cut Chris Stewart on Saturday, bringing the Avalanche roster down to 27 (the NHL max is 23). The Stewart move wasn't unexpected; he's had a good camp and preseason, but there are simply still too many people ahead of him on the depth chart. The final four cuts are going to be difficult. 09.28.08Avalanche cut down to 28The Avalanche dropped from 33 to 28 players today, sending Jason Bacashihua, Nathan Smith, Darcy Campbell, Aaron MacKenzie and Matt Hendricks to the AHL. With 23 spots available, that means, barring an IR move, there are at least 5 more cuts to come. Peter Budaj and Andrew Raycroft are the only two goalies left - no surprises here. There's 8 defensemen left on the roster. I would say 6 are locks - Brett Clark, Adam Foote, John-Michael Liles, Ruslan Salei, Jordan Leopold and Scott Hannan.
