If it meant that Stastny was going to get #1 center minutes and they were going to insert Hensick as the #2 center, I would be happy with any sort of Sakic injury that would keep him out until the start of the playoffs.

totally crazy speculation - could the Hensick call up mean that Sakic is going to miss time? It makes a lot more sense to call up Hensick now (instead of, say, a month ago when we first started calling for it) if Sakic or another key forward is hurt…

I don’t care if Smith would have to clear waivers. It’s not like anyone would pluck him off waivers, and even if they did, so what? He’s a plugger.

I wish the Avs would stop wasting roster spots on garbage like this. I’m cool with Parker having a roster spot if he’s willing to go out and crosscheck people in the face like he did the other night. A guy like that will always have utility. But Wyatt Smith? He’s not even very good defensively, and we have several guys in the minors who could use that playing time and possibly even do something with it.

Smith would have to clear waivers to go down. I think Richardson is one of the few guys who wouldn’t have to clear waivers. Not that this makes any sense whatsover.

Second, it’s not in the online edition but in the print edition of the Rocky Mountain it claimed that Sakic missed the last five minutes of the game with a groin strain. I noticed he didn’t come out on the ice for the 2nd star announcement.

They should have kept Richardson up and demoted Wyatt Smith.

Not sure if they could (due to one way contracts and whatever) (I.e if they send Smith down does he go on waivers? Obviously Richardson doesn’t. I don’t have a good enough grasp on the contract structures of these players to give a definitive answer.)

but I completely agree with that, if they could contractually.
