When you are making excuses for your goaltender it is never a good thing. I don't remember too many nights of excuse making when we had 33 in goal. Then I realized that it WAS Def Leppard. Oh my...either Vs. must have been desperate for any band they could find or Def Leppard is desperate for any audience they can find. Or both. The problem with Budaj is it too often seems he gives up a goal that's a lucky bounce, then one on a deflection, then one on a good shot, then one that's just a good play. Next thing you know he has let 4 by him. An NHL caliber goalie has to find a way to make those big saves to bail his team out and I just don't see that enough with Budaj. On those 5 goals he gave up last night maybe only one could be considered a "bad goal", but he needs to make a few big saves on the other 4 goals. I guess that's how I see it. The puck just seemed to sit in the Avs crease all night. On the Pk they held Boston mostly to the outside, but they didn't do that as well at even strength. Good hustle, just not quite sound enough. It's not like we were playing the '76 Canadians out there, it was the fricken Boston Bruins. The first two lines controlled the puck really well. It seems like Sakic should have had a couple of goals but Thomas stoned him. Jones seemed like he was on the verge of making good plays all night but for the huge reach of Chara. Tucker seems good at shooting the puck right in the chest of the goaltender and that 3rd line will need a lot of time to jell. I thought Clark, Liles and Leopold looked really good. But I thought Salei was making poor decisions all night. I think with that pace and effort along with better luck and better play by the stay-at-home defensemen the Avs will be really fun to watch.
