Defense and goaltending are the cornerstones of a team that wants to challenge for the Stanley Cup. Outside of the Ducks I think we can rest assured that the Colorado offense will have more room in the next round. Theo and the Avs might face some stronger offensive pressure from the next opponent. Good first round, not the most memorable of first round wins but it was nice to see again. Honestly, it reminds me a lot of the Avs when they used to beat Phoenix in the first round. Foote and Roy would shut down Roenick and Tkachuk. It made the whole series easier than the scoreboard indicated. Theo had to steal one but the Wild had to get some crazy bounces to get it even that far.

FG is really proving himself as GM, that's for sure. We all knew Salei was an improvement on Skrastins, but who would have known that he would be this good?

And I figured the Foote deal was more a gimmick than a serious personnel addition, but Footer has played like he's five years younger. And the leadership he provides is incredible. You can tell the reverential way the younger guys view him.

And Theodore, holy crap. Good thing I'm not GM. I would have bought him out and rode Budaj---not that Budaj couldn't have done it, too, but Theodore is a miracle.

I have to agree with some of the comments out there in the media and the bloggisphere, Ryan Smyth is finally earning his keep. Sure he only has 3 points in the series while Sakic(6) Brunette (5), Wolski (5), and Forsberg (5) lead the team. But he made Arnason look dangerous, much like Wolksi and Svatos did early in the year. Both of his goal in the series were big. Once again we have a third line that could be any team 2nd line and some teams 1st.

Foote and Salei have shored up the D-corps. Foote shut down Gabby all season and though he won't get many kudos for his work and his leadership, I think we all know how much of an asset Foote is and are thanking our lucky stars that we got him back.

Jones is getting his chances and he'll find that touch. Just like Gutie last night. Almost every time we had any short handed chance in this series Guite was involved. Last night he got a good feed from Super Joe to get the chance. But Guite also read the play and jump on his horse to be in a position where Joe could get him the puck...then of course he had to beat "The Backstrom". Jones will have a similar moment. All the planets will align and he'll score, then hopefully the flood gates will open up.

I wonder if Jones has Hinote's old locker. He just looks superb until he gets within 5-10 feet of the net and then he just seems to fall to pieces. He's really having an impact, though, even if he's not scoring.

absolutely Foote has played better than expected. Salei too! Without those 2 (even with Theodore heroics) I'm pretty sure that we're golfing right now, or down 3 - 1 to the Red Wings.

What in the world does Davey Jones have to do to score, I swear. One of these days he'll break out and it'll be incredible. Great game nonetheless for him and that whole line, even Arnason.
