Jose Theodore will be back in the Avs lineup as early as Sunday’s game against the Sharks. But, before that happens, Theodore “Tea Adore” will make a rehab start in Cleveland on Saturday. It’s the season opener for the Lake Monsters. Assuming the new bionic er, surgically repaired knee holds up well on Saturday, Theo should get activated for the Saturday game, with Tyler Weiman headed to Cleveland.
That’s not a moment too soon for Adrian Dater, who is TOTALLY FREAKING OUT over Peter Budaj.

i wouldn’t put myself in FREAKING OUT mode, but i was a little concerned about his play. positionally he was fine and I didn’t notice the glove hand issues Dater talks about, but his rebound control on the PP was noticeably off.
Perhaps this is me not knowing enough, but sending rebounds off at high velocity to the sideboards on most point shots does not help the PK. I really don’t mind the Avs “stand-in a box/diamond” thing most of the time, because you’re trusting that you can make the play to stop the backdoor pass, and that your goalie can make the first save and control the rebound enough to get a whistle or to a defender for a clear.
Instead, we got rebounds flying to nashville players on the half boards and hardly holding of the puck. I should note, we did seem to do ok stopping the backdoor pass (at least on the PK). No clears or whistles means tired PKers (though I’m not sure how they get tired, they just stand there
) and that leads to goals.
Becuase Budaj is struggling to get whistles and the Avs are struggling to win faceoffs anyways, maybe it’s time to try a more aggressive, challenging PK. the backdoor pass and quick passing would be more effective, but we’d be playing to budaj’s strengths — positioning and quickness — rather than his weaknesses.
