It was a rather busy week in the Avosphere. And, with rookie camp starting this Saturday and training camp getting underway next Thursday, things should really start kicking into high gear. After all, the Avs opener is just a month away!
The biggest news out of Denver was the extension given to Brett Clark. Although reaction on the HF Boards was not overwhelmingly favorable, all the blog articles I could find on the subject were positive (granted, two were by yours truly).
Jose Theodore had minor knee surgery which might cause him to miss some training camp time. And, speaking of Theo, both Tapeleg and Shane mention this stellar article on his fall from grace.
Elsewhere, there’s a fluffy piece on Ian Laperriere and an article (or, as the webmaster likes to call it, an “artilce”) on Joe Sakic. The second one is worth it just for the photo of Joe’s strange bleached jeans.
Everything hockey has two nice articles about Peters…er, Forsberg and Budaj, I mean.
Adrian Dater and Terry Frei both had a blog article. Dater’s covered Bill Simmons, Peter Forsberg and Theodore. Frei’s was about the old Colorado Rockies, and includes a rockin’ picture of coach Quenneville sans ’stache.
On the prospect front, TJ Galardi will now be playing for the Calgary Hitmen.
And last but not least: the Avalanche already have their first victory of the year! Woohoo!

People who actually watch the team play, have played themselves (especially defense), and know a little something about hockey are livid about the Clark overpayment.
Those who just look at the stats love the overpayment.
It all just depends on which column you fall into.
stop being so dramatic
If by “dramatic,” you mean “accurate,” then you might have a point.
Pretending that re-signing Clark at even his 06-07 salary (much less more than doubling it) was a good move is like pretending that JoeTed was a Vezina contender last season.
Brett Clark is fucking AWFUL. Very very bad defensively. Above average to good offensively. Not so much as a modicum of hockey sense in his entire body. Average skating.
Giving him anything more than #6 minutes is a recipe for disaster. The guy is horrible. FG saw fit to give the worthless puke a raise, and you’re drinking his Kool-Aid.
It’s just like those Aebi Pom-Pon Squad idiots a couple years back. Just because he wears an Avs uni doesn’t mean he’s good.
by “dramatic” I meant “dramatic”. really.
dra·mat·ic /drəˈmætɪk/ [druh-mat-ik]
–adjective 1. of or pertaining to the drama.
2. employing the form or manner of the drama.
3. characteristic of or appropriate to the drama, esp. in involving conflict or contrast; vivid; moving: dramatic colors; a dramatic speech.
4. highly effective; striking: The silence following his impassioned speech was dramatic.

And yet he’s in the NHL. He must be sleeping with the boss’ daughter.
Clark is worth every penny and I know a little something about hockey and playing defense. Surprisingly, I’m not livid. That contract will take him through the prime years of a defender. The only player that was “AWFUL” on that line was Karlis Skrastins. And by Awful, I mean he was just mediocre but playing against first line talent so he looked awful. Hopefully, he played hurt on a bad knee to get his record and he will be much better this season.
mmmmmm Kool-aid
And yet he’s in the NHL.
Wow, yeah, because there’s never been an NHL player who didn’t have any hockey sense.
Clark is worth every penny and I know a little something about hockey and playing defense.
Obviously, you don’t.
The contract may take him through his prime years, but that doesn’t mean it was a good idea to double his already grossly-inflated salary.
Man, I cannot stand these ridiculous pom-pon wavers.

then go away
