I kinda like our non-affiliated Blazers here in OKC. NO pouting guys because they aren’t up with the big club, and the in-state rivalry with Tulsa is always a hot ticket.

I used to go the (IHL) Las Vegas Thunder all the time. Now we have the (ECHL) Wranglers. I don’t get to very many games, unfortunately, but they are always fun. Hopefully this season the Wranglers won’t fall in the Kelly Cup finals, like we did last season. Only problem with the Wranglers is they are affiliated with the Flames.

neither have been that great, unfortunately. In the 3 years of the SO, Budaj has allowed 24 goals in 50 shots (.520) and Raycroft has given up 16 in 40 chances (.600).

44 players had a SO save% of at least 600 last year.

Hmmmm, this post brings up an aspect that I seem to have forgotten… Now that Budaj is our main man, we’d better hope he gets better or we at least start to score in shootouts, because he hasn’t been that good in them in the NHL. Either that, or hope Raycroft turns into a shootout specialist (which I doubt lol).

I believe the players under contract with the parent club move (Finger went from Hershey to Lowell to Albany) while players under contract with the AHL club stay with the AHL club.

Yeah I got to see the grizzlies before the avs…. Good cheap fun hockey…. Does anyone know how the affiliate thing works with players whose rights belong to the parent club? Do they all move to a new affiliate team if that changes or do they still have minor contracts to play out before they move? Does the affiliate thing only apply to coaches and systems? Never much thought about it until this post, but now I’m curious.

before the kids we went to a lot of Manchester Monarchs games. in fact, I think we saw Hershey play in Manchester the night after this game.

Very interesting post.

I live in Chicago - and I LOVE going to AHL games because The players actually seem to love playing the game, and protecting their teammates.

And, on top of that you know, the Wolves - AHL affiliate to ATL, are Calder Cup Champs, and I saw them win it last year, it was awesome.
