When Tucker dried up on the PP, there was no place else for him to play in Toronto. He can't kill penalties, he's a trainwreck at 5 on 5 and he certainly can't play the tough minutes (he averaged just 12 minutes a game last year).

On top of that, he doesn't hit with the same power - he often had a hard time even staying on his skates last year - and I can't even recall the last time he won a fight (Rutuu in Pittsburgh beat the stuffing out of him).

The Leafs simply don't have the depth to shelter or carry a guy like Tucker, especially since Tucker fully expected to be in the top six.

Despite these weaknesses, I think the contract is good gamble for the Avalanche - it's low cost and short-term.

If Tucker can regain his touch, he's a pretty solid addition for the PP. And if it really was a one-time injury that bogged him down so badly last year, he may be able to actually bring some of his fabled (and recently absent) grit to the line up.

If you don't like Tucker for his ref-baiting, Bryan McCabe would make your head explode.

I'm not so sure I like this signing. Normally most NHL teams don't mind carrying that one agitator on the roster who stirs up the opposition...the bad penalties and getting caught out of position are generally forgiven if said player can draw as many penalties as he takes. But with Lappy and Cody Mc's already on the roster, do the Avs need 4 of them??? Yikes. Aside from Tucker, I like the bunch but none of these guys exactly contribute to team mobility and none are really PK specialists. I wouldn't mind a few more players on 3rd and 4th lines you wouldn't mind throwing out there to protect a lead.

"Euro Trash". Are you kidding me? What is this 1979? Europeans can play just as well as any Canadian or American. I don't see how Tucker being Canadian or not Canadian makes any difference.

I like this signing too. He's a hockey player. He'll score, hit, fight, whatever it takes, and that is hockey. I, for one, am glad to see more North Americans than Euro trash on our team. I like to see real NHL hockey where a tough Canadian farm kid will throw his shoulder into a guy and score a goal on the same shift, then drop his gloves on the next one, take no individual credit for the win, and go home to his wife and kids afterward.

My hatred of the Wings usually trumps any other individual hatred. But when the Wings have a truly hateworthy player, which is quite often by the way, my hatred meter is pegged almost to Islamic extremist hatred of infidel pigs level. Since Tucker has never been a Wing, he doesn't resonate too badly with me. But if the whine factor is as DD suggests, meaning Tucker could practically be a San Antonio Spur, that knocks him down a peg in my book too.
