I wouldn't say faceoff percentage is a worthless stat, more of a complimentary one. Detroit was 1st in the league, Pittsburgh was last in the regular season and playoffs (so far). Those two are about to meet in the finals so what does that tell you.

However, winning faceoffs means puck possession and it's hard to score when you don't have the puck so it's still a valuable stat to look at as long as you take everything into perspective.

I noticed poor face off win percentages in almost every month for the main face off takers and was going to link that to squeaking into the playoffs, until I compared it to the rest of the leage, via NHL.com's stat machine.

The Avs' face off win percentage was (47.79), 3rd from last in the league. The two worse teams were Minnesota(47.3%) and Pittsburg (46.11%). So does that make face-off win percentage a worthless statistic?
