Some scary news today:
Altitude Sports & Entertainment Network announced today that Avalanche play-by-play announcer Mike Haynes will undergo surgery on a Basilar Artery Aneurysm. He will miss the 2008 Stanley Cup playoffs.
I don’t know anything about that condition, but a quick google search tells me that it’s serious. All the best, Mike. I’m sure I speak for all Avs fans when I wish you a full recovery.
In far less important news, John Kelly will join Peter McNab in the broadcast booth during Haynes absence. Kudos to the St Louis Blues and FOX for allowing Kelly to fill in.

An Aneurysm is never, ever a good thing. That’s just terrible. Get well Mike.
Get Well Mike Haynes. I know we give a little crap to the Altitude guys, but I think we have all agreed we like them overall and all kidding we do is meant in jest and fun.
I hope he gets well soon.
Haynes you deserve a giant get well card.
The playoffs just won’t be the same…best wishes to the Haynes family.
Get well, Mike.
So, has anybody noticed that we went in the wayback machine for players AND announcers for this season’s playoffs?
Mike- here’s to a speedy recovery, and a hopeful broadcast in June. We missed you tonight…
Mike I pray and wish you the best. It is not going to be the same playoffs, or the same game without you. However, you will be back soon.
Dear Mike
Your the most exciting play by play anouncer in sports.
The only thing I want more than the Av’s to hoist another
cup is a full and speedy recovery for you! Much love.
Dave
Mike -
Of all the sports announcers I’ve listened to in my 52 years you are by far the best! I know of no one - absolutely no one - that gets as excited as you do by a good hockey play, whether or not it was by the Avalanche. It is clear to see that you love the sport of hockey. Your enthusiasm is infectious and you have lots of fans the world over.
My family & I plus the whole Avalanche community are praying for you today Mike. We hope you make a full and speedy recovery. We want you back calling Avs games for us!
Best of luck to you. May God Bless and watch over you and your family in these trying times.
Get Well Soon!
Just heard about Haynes’ brain surgery. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Brain aneurysms are silent bombs waiting to go off, and I’m very glad they caught his in time. He’s too young a man to have such a problem, and here’s wishing him many, many more years announcing Avs games.
