Start growing the playoff beards, boys and girls. The Avalanche have clinched a playoff berth.
The Avalanche didn’t get help from Nashville or Calgary. In the end, they had to get into the playoffs the hard way - by winning. The Avalanche fell behind Vancouver 2-0, but stormed back with a 5-minute outburst in the 2nd with goals by Liles, Hejduk and a dandy by Wojtek Wolski. And then Peter Forsberg iced it on a breakaway goal in the 3rd. Great game, great win, great to see the Avs back in the playoffs.

WOOO HOOO!
Well I’ll be a son of a loving mother! Things didn’t look good at times this season but the Avalanche just might be getting it together at the right time. Hell, they defended a lead properly even!
Oh, and I’ll give the beard a shot but I’m not holding my breath
“Hell, they defended a lead properly even”
other than goaltending, this is probably the area the Avalanche have improved the most in. Just a month or to ago, the Avalanche with a 1-goal lead to start the 3rd was a letdown waiting to happen. Lately, it’s been money in the bank. Since that’s been one of my biggest criticisms of the coach, I have to tip my proverbial hat at the way he’s turned the team around in that area.
That’s a very good point DD. The old strategy was “hang on for dear life” and this new strategy seems to be more of a reasonable:
Defend and take your shots when they are available.
I like it a lot more, so kudos to the coaching staff. I’ll give Q some credit as he seems to know how to coach defense pretty well.
I guess I’ll just grow out my chin beard longer than normal. The rest of my facial hair usually looks pretty sad.
Thanks a lot, Dad.
I too shall join the fraternity of “Avs bloggers who can grow stubble underneath my chin but not actually a beard.” If the Avs were to go to game 7 of the cup finals I would have one hell of a scraggly neckbeard though.
I’ve been rocking the uber-cool 90’s goatee since I got married in ‘03, so I’ve had a playoff beard for 5 years now. I pwn all of you (except DD and his mountain-man growth, of course).
So wait, are you saying it was über-cool in the 90s but you still grew it, or it started in the 90’s and it’s still über-cool. Personally I think it’s the former
I too have had the Goatee for a number of years and will be growing out the full beard, once again. I admit I was a little scared last night since the Avs haven’t won after giving up the first goal recently, especially on the road. But they pulled it off and Forsberg clinched it with his first of the season. Wolski…what can I say about that goal other than he got one monkey off his back while another was all over it.
They say a rich man never knows the joy of a final car payment. Making the playoffs feels really good.
I love playoff beards, last year just wasn’t the same without one.
I forget, does former mean the first of the options or the last. I can never get that straight.
Also, how’d you get the Jeigermiester dots over uber?
Also also:
DD, do you mean to say that you advocate playoff beards on pre-pubescent women? I’m not sure I can cotten with that notion. Or if it’s even possible unless they are Ukranian gymnists…
“how’d you get the Jeigermiester dots over uber?”
Haha! You mean the Umlauts over the ü? I have my U.S. keyboard set to a UK keyboard (so that you can make most european accents easily) and I just have to hit a quotation mark before the vowel to get the umlauts. I don’t imagine most people have their keyboards set to UK though (I only do because about half of everything I have to write is in German, so I have to use Umlauts often), so there must be a way to make them without modifying keyboard settings.
Oh, and if you can’t get the umlauts working, you can spell “über” as “ueber”.
former means the first one… I was messing with you.
And in the control panel you can change your keyboard to English-international which has settings that allow you to put in ü’s é’s, ç’s and all sorts of cool stuff
I’ll leave the beard growing to you gents
I’m planning on growing my neard(neck beard) as it has been known even longer than it is now and annoying many people with it as well, good times, good times.
To get umlauts I just type alt + 0252
Like this: ü
“I’ll leave the beard growing to you gents :)”
deal.
I’m normally a goatee guy, so in the interest of science I shaved everything off yesterday so that I can chronicle the beard as it grows, hopefully with a daily pic.
I don’t know if I’d say hopefully…
I was speaking for the ladies there.
or something.
