09.26.08Denver Post gets it. Rocky Mountain News…perhaps not so much.Today each of our local newspapers wrote articles on Avalanche goaltenders. The Denver Post with Budaj's time to be No. 1 has arrived. The RMN with Avalanche's Raycroft puts best foot forward in win. Ok, it's true that one is a recap of a preseason game and another is a feature article on a player. So it is a bit of apples and oranges here I will admit. The 22 year old center is now in his third NHL year and shows some great promise. But wait just a moment here, that's not a 2 year deal, it's 12 years. It's difficult to say if this announcement was at the behest of the certifiably insane owner Charles Wang or coach Ted Nolan, who I have a lot of respect for. But the recent attempt of the Oilers to sign Thomas Vanek is something too outrageous to make up. GM Kevin Lowe of Edmonton offered restricted free agent Vanek a seven year, 50 million dollar contract. No, that isn't a typo nor a product of my horrible grammatical prose.
