10.12.08Recap: Edmonton 3 - Colorado 2Everybody panic! Obviously, the Avalanche are on their way to an 0-82 season. Peter Budaj can't stop a thing. We're done for. Doomed, I tell you. DOOMED. Or not. 10.09.08The new ITCS game reportLast year, I introduced a game report that included the Avalanche lines and shift charts. Honestly, my programming skills were (are) such that I was pretty happy with what I came up with. But, it required a lot of work on my end. This summer, I set out to automate a lot more of the process, and, so far, I'm quite pleased with my progress. 10.08.08Parker IS on the IRTurns out, my little scoop yesterday about Scott Parker was correct. The Sheriff will start the season on the IR with concussion symptoms (it's worth clicking the the link just for the picture of Parker). Just throwing this out there: could the Avs be eyeing someone on the waiver wire? It seems odd to IR Parker now, since they don't need the roster space.

10.08.08Game on! Season opener is tomorrowOne thing about hockey: these long offseasons are unbearable! We last saw the Avs on May 1st and now, finally, after a long 5 months (yes, I'm kidding)...hockey is back. The Avalanche host the Boston Bruins on Thursday night. The game will be on Versus. As some of you are aware, this is a double header game. Last year on opening night, the early game went to a shootout and didn't end until 9:48 eastern, so the Avs-Stars game was joined in progress about 10 minutes in. 10.07.08Avalanche make final cutsThe final two players have been sent to Lake Erie to get the Avalanche down to the 23-man limit. One I was expecting, the other, like Willsie, caught me by surprise. TJ Hensick and Per Ledin have been demoted to Lake Erie. I figured Hensick would have a tough time making the team, not because of his play this preseason, but because there just isn't a place for him to play at the moment. 10.07.08Willsie cutBrian Willsie has been reassigned to Lake Erie. I'm a bit surprised; I thought Willsie's versatility was going to win him a spot. Unless I'm wrong, Willsie will need to clear waivers. The Avs roster is now down to 25, so there's 2 more cuts to go.

10.06.08Avalanche preseason statsI was curious to see preseason stats for the Avs, and I wasn't able to find any. So, I threw them together (rather hastily I might add) in excel. I didn't include the Burgundy and White scrimmage, and stats don't exist for the Frozen Fury game, so these are just for the remaining 5 preseason games. And especially considering the hastily part, it definitely shouldn't be considered official: forwards defensemen All the TOI numbers are averages. The rest of the numbers are totals. 10.05.08Lines Tonight: Col @ ChiTonight is the Avs final preseason game (aka the final non-televised Avalanche game of the season). Budaj got the start. The NHL stats are screwy again (the have 6 Avalanche forwards starting a shift 39 seconds into the game), but I think I've got it sorted out: Sakic, Wolski, Tucker Stastny, Hejduk, Smyth Willsie, Arnason, McCormick Guite, Laperriere, McLeod Foote, Clark Salei, Leopold Hannan, Tjarnqvist Foote (along with Lappy) is wearing the A; I think it's safe to assume he'll be the guy to inherit Andrew Brunette's assistant captaincy.
