07.01.08Getting to know Andrew RaycroftFor better or for worse, Jose Theodore is gone. Colorado didn't want to pay $4.5 million a year. Washington did, and that's that. There was some talk today that the Avs would end up with Cristobal Huet, but that turned out to be false (and thank goodness - Huet went to the Blackhawks for a whopping $5.65 million per year). 07.01.08Avalanche add some grit to the grit they already hadOkay, let's see if I have this 100% correct. The Avalanche last year rolled out one of their grittiest teams since, well, ever. Guys like Ben Guite, Ian Laperriere, Cody McLeod and Cody McCormick had opposing teams reaching for the Bengay after games. All four of those guys are coming back. 07.01.08Four Avs move onGM Francois Giguere (in a refreshingly frank interview) told us yesterday that four of our UFAs would likely be moving on today. And, in a span of less than two hours, they did just that. First up, around 2:15 eastern time, was Andrew Brunette. It was clear that Bruno would be leaving this summer, and there was talk that he'd be going back to Minnesota.
