02.29.08Mainstream media and bloggersDavid may be out of the office but surely he forgot I still have the key. 02.27.08Out of the officeIt's a critical time for the Colorado Avalanche. In an example of not-so-perfect timing, I will be in the Caribbean for the next few days. While I am more than excited to be going, I'm kind of bummed to be missing the debut of Ruslan Salei tonight as well as the return to Denver of Adam Foote and Peter Forsberg on Saturday. Oh well. 02.27.08Recap: Colorado 3, Calgary 2 (OT)The time machine has been fired up, and the new-old Colorado Avalanche are revving for a playoff push. Last night, they beat the Calgary Flames in OT, 3-2 (of course - the last 4 Colorado games have been 3-2 games). Since I'm kind of short on time today, I'm going to do this recap in bullet-point style... Adam Foote joined the team, but missed most of the 1st period. He played 18 solid minutes, but wasn't yet inserted on the PK. That meant PK time for John-Michael Liles (2:45) and even a shift for Kyle Cumiskey. Liles played very well on ...

In the last few months, I've heard some people say that you are a Jack Adams candidate coach, and others who think you should be managing a Taco Bell somewhere in Idaho. In case you we're living under a rock, or had an internet outage, the Avalanche made a big splash in the last 48 hours, adding Adam Foote, Peter Forsberg and Ruslan Salei to the roster, while only giving up Karlis Skrastins (and 2 or 3 high draft picks). While I think all three moves are a win, with just one player leaving I've been wondering how everyone is going to fit...especially on defense. When Forsberg arrives, the Avalanche will have 15 forwards. Obviously, that's at least one too many. I assume David Jones is headed back ...

02.26.08Our left Foote!Turn Back the Clock Week continues in Denver, as the Avalanche have re-acquired Adam Foote. That's two guys we lost after the lockout ended coming back to the Avs. Can Chris Gratton be far behind? TSN is reporting that the Avs give up a conditional first round pick in either 2008 or 2009 as well as a 4th rounder. And yes, that's way too much to give up. 02.26.08Skrastins to FloridaBreaking news - Karlis Skrastins has been dealt to the Panthers along with a 3rd round pick for Ruslan Salei. I don't remember much about Salei (he's the guy who had that big hit on Modano a few years back, right?). I don't care how good (or bad) Salei is, Skrastins was in a desperate need of a change of scenery. And I no longer have to hear the "Skrastins is a scratch" joke again! 02.26.08A Slap Shot from the Cheap SeatsIn case you're looking for some light reading to distract you from all the deadline hoopla, the NY Times Slap Shot blog has a feature out today (well, yesterday and today) called "Hockey Night in Blogdom".
