Theo did not make the trip to Detroit, meaning Peter Budaj will get an immediate chance to jump back onto the horse that bucked him last night. Tyler Weiman has been recalled to back up Budaj.

01.31.08Recap: Avalanche 6, Blackhawks 3The Colorado Avalanche offense woke up last night in a big way, as they dominated the Chicago Blackhawks 6-3 at the Pepsi Center. The game wasn't even as close as the score indicated, as the Hawks were down 6-1 before putting up two late goals (more on those in a second). The Avs closed out their recent home stand with a 2-2-1 record. For the game, TJ Hensick was promoted to the top line and Brad Richardson returned to the roster and played left wing on the 4th line. 01.31.08Game Notes: Game 51, Chicago at ColoradoThe Avalanche host the Blackhawks this evening. Tonight's broadcast is by Vs – John Forslund (never heard of him) and Eddie Olczyk. For the Avs, TJ Hensick is expected to play with Andrew Brunette and Milan Hejduk (a line we saw in the later stages of the Minnesota game). He's coming off of a big performance in the AHL All-Star game and I'll be curious to see how he performs tonight. 01.29.08Brad Richardson recalledJust yesterday, I posted an article at MHH lamenting the declining output in our 3rd and 4th line. At the end, I mentioned that Brad Richardson actually had a good season last year centering our fourth line and jokingly asked "What ever happened to him, anyway?". It was funny because when Richardson was demoted on January 6th, it sure sounded like we wouldn't be seeing him back with the Avalanche anytime soon. Well, he's back. 01.25.08Do we still adore Theodore?I think most readers are familiar enough with our goaltending saga that I don't need to spend much time rehashing the sad history to date. Suffice to say that, after screwing with the heads of both goalies this season, Joel Quenneville seems to have finally settled on Jose Theodore as our starter. For two weeks, it seemed like a solid decision, as Theo rattled off his best sustained performance as an Avalanche. 01.25.08Recap: Wild 3, Avalanche 2I didn't have a real good feeling going into this game. Sure enough, I had good reason. The Avalanche were beaten by the Wild 3-2. With the win, the Wild leapfrogged into first place in the NW division going into the All-Star break. Had Colorado won, they would have been in first. Instead, they limp into the break in 4th place in the NW and 8th in the conference. It was a strange game. 01.24.08Notes: Game 50, Minnesota at ColoradoThe Avalanche host the Minnesota Wild tonight. The Avalanche are 15-4-2 all-time against the Wild at home (not including the playoffs, unfortunately). I've got the Minnesota feed, Dan Terhaar and Mike Greenlay, two of my favorite broadcasters. I love the Minnesota broadcasts overall – intro, graphics, music, entertaining intermissions and, again, the broadcasters. I wish more hockey telecasts were this enjoyable. 01.23.08Recap: Predators 4, Avalanche 0…Episode IIFor the 2nd time this year, the Avalanche have been shut out by the Nashville Predators. This time it was backup Dan Ellis, who looked stellar while turning away all 38 shots he faced. At the other end of the ice, Jose Theodore looked not-very-stellar behind a defense that seemed confused for much of the night. The game was close for the first 40 minutes, with the only tally going to the Predators' Shea Weber. Weber knuckled a one-timer past Theodore from the point at the 4:51 on the power play. 01.22.08Mark Rycroft sent to ColumbusMark Rycroft has been traded. Today, the Avalanche sent Rycroft to the Columbus Blue Jackets for defensemen Darcy Campbell and forward Phillipe Dupuis. Assuming he'll be joining the Jackets' NHL squad, Rycroft will be moving about 150 miles, but will be going from the AHL back to the NHL (how odd is it that Cleveland is the AHL city and Columbus is the NHL city?). I was an occasional Avalanche fan transformed into a die hard Avalanche fan when a certain Ray Bourque was traded to Colorado on my birthday in 2000.
I opened up the Cheap Seats in August of 2006, and have been babbling about the Avs ever since. I also contribute on a somewhat weekly basis to Mile High Hockey.
