Recap: Colorado 3 - Edmonton 2 (SO) Avalanche Recaps | (12)
It was a game of redemption. Marek Svatos took two momentum killing penalties (one leading to the first Edmonton goal), prompting the Joel Quenneville WTF face from Tony Granato. But his amazing one-on-four deke with 25 seconds remaining drew a critical penalty to put the Avs on a 5-on-3. Recap: Colorado 2 - Vancouver 1 (SO) Avalanche Recaps | (1)
It's been 12 hours since I finished watching the game, and I'm still a wee bit giddy. The Vancouver Canucks hadn't lost to a NW team all year. Roberto Luongo hadn't been scored on since the Eisenhower administration. The Canucks were 8-1 when scoring first (which they ended up doing in this game). And the Avs of late had been scoring about as much as I did in college. It wasn't going to be pretty. But it was pretty. Roberto Luongo was exceptional, as advertised. That was one hell of a game. Roberto Luongo and Peter Budaj put on a goaltending clinic out there. The both made a lot of highlight reel saves. I'm guessing the stores are all out of those I Believe in Budaj buttons. Oh, and TJ? Good luck with the apartment hunting in Denver. Bigger recap tomorrow...

Joe Sakic will not be on the ice in Vancouver on Wednesday. Although his MRI was negative, he's not yet ready to go and did not make the trip to his home province. The next chance for him to play will be on Saturday in Edmonton. (The Oilers, by the way, claimed Jesse Boulerice of Lake Erie off of waivers today). Tony Granato said in the above article that Arnason would play on Wednesday. With McCormick returning from his leave of absence (our condolences to him on his loss), that leaves one more forward to be scratched. It won't be TJ ...

I know the Scott Parker story has been given coverage today by both the Denver Post and Joe over at MHH. While I think that would normally be plenty for a player like Parker, I do think the story is worth looking at a little deeper. The Sheriff was re-signed by the Avs on June 24th. If it's been reported somewhere, I've missed it. Kyle Cumiskey has been sent back to Lake Erie according to this transaction page. I'd say that's pretty accurate, since Cumiskey played for the Monsters on Sunday (wearing the A, no less). Not that it's a big deal - with Hannan healthy enoug to play on Saturday, this move was going to happen sooner or later. It just would be nice to have a little official notification (which I'm sure someone will point out to me within the hour).

The streak of futility is over. The Avalanche won for the first time since October 25th, blanking the Nashville Predators 1-0. I had other stuff going on last night, so, while I watched most of the game, I wasn't really paying all that much attention. Of course, that won't stop me from talking about it. The embattled goaltending and defense of the Avalanche finally put in a solid 60-minute effort. Darcy Tucker is under fire today, and I don't just mean from the folks bashing him on the message boards.
