  Mathieu Schneider to the Ducks NHL | (0)

  Here's the first semi-head scratcher of the offseason. Matt Schneider has signed with the Ducks. It's a 2-year deal that averages $5.65 million - a 70% raise from his last season with Detroit. Not a bad haul for a guy who just turned 38. I assume this means Scott Niedermayer is serious about retiring?

  Farewell, Brett McLean Avalanche Notebook, NHL | (1)

  Add another team to Brett McLean's long list of home cities. The Avs forward is now a former Av, as McLean has signed with the Florida Panthers. McLean's deal is 3 years at $1,750,0000 per season - a big 133% raise from his $750,000 cap number with the Avs. Continue Reading...

  And the first free agent signing is… NHL | (0)

  Todd White. The center signs with the Thrashers for $9.5 Million over 4 years ($2.375 million per season). That's a 61% raise over his 2006-2007 cap number with the Minnesota Wild ($1,475,000). A couple big extensions to report. Joe Thornton adds three years (at $7.2 million a season) after his current contract runs out next summer. Barring a trade (and what team would do that...oh, sorry Boston) that keeps Thornton in San Jose until July 2011. Meanwhile, Jarome Iginla has reportedly agreed to an extension that could keep him in Calgary perhaps all the way until the summer of 2013.

  Tkachuk signs, Fernandez traded NHL | (1)

  For the second straight season, the St Louis Blues have re-signed a player they traded away at the deadline. Last year, it was Doug Weight coming back to St Louis after a brief, championship stay in Carolina. This year, it's Keith Tkachuk. Tkachuk was sent to the Thrashers at the deadline and then, miraculously sent back to the Blues after the season was over. Nope, no collusion here. Meanwhile, Boston sports fans have a second Manny to contend with.  The newest Manny doesn't have funky dreads and likely won't demand a trade every season.
