Kevin Lowe is still desperate NHL | (2)
Oiler's GM Kevin Lowe is again making a desperate plea to salvage his miserable summer. Unable to land quality free agents like Chris Drury or Scott Gomez or even not-so-quality guys like Michael Nylander, Lowe had to settle on defensive prodigy Sheldon Souray. He also tried to poach RFA Tomas Vanek from the Sabres which, in the end, only succeeded in pissing off Buffalo GM Darcy Regier. Hannu sings the Blues NHL | (0)
It's not really Avalanche related, but I do want to talk a bit about today's trade that has goalie Hannu Toivonen going from the Bruins to the Blues. Boston gets Carl Soderberg in return, but, he is irrelevant; if Boston is making a trade, you know they are going to be the team that gets the shaft. Toivonen was marvelously inconsistent last year, prompting the Bruins to trade for Manny Fernandez. But, he looks to have tons of potential. In the near term, he can split time with Manny Legace - a guy I think would make a great backup ...

Kansas City unveils new jerseys NHL Jerseys | (3)
Ha ha, I'm so clever. Anywho, the Nashville Predators have unveiled their new unis. I don't quite get it. Why have 2 different logos? That doesn't really make sense to me. One has a wordmark, one doesn't. One has rock concert T-shirt sleeves, one doesn't. I think the white jerseys are stunning (in a good way), while the blue jerseys are an absolute mess. How odd to have such a disparity in the look of your team. Then again, at least the mustard unis are gone.

The Avosphere has expanded a little bit more today. SportsBlogs Nation has started to expand into the world of hockey, and Joe from Dear Lord Stanley has been tagged to helm an Avalanche blog. No change for Avs uniforms Avalanche Notebook, NHL Jerseys | (6)
With all the hubub about new jerseys, there's been a lot of speculation about what the new jerseys will look like. Turns out, they're going to look pretty much like the old jerseys (well, except for the absence of the gorgeous third jerseys). This was confirmed in an email from Altitude Authentics (not to me, but I'm pretty confident that it's legit): The Avs jersey will not be drastically different, same logos and looks. Souray finally signs NHL | (0)
Sheldon Souray has landed where Mrs Nylander and Mrs Pronger refused to go: Edmonton. Terms haven't been announced yet, but you can bet it's a fair bit of coin for a one-dimensional player. Looks like Kevin Lowe's Summer of Desperation™ has finally landed him a fish. Albeit a fish who can't play defense, but, still a fish. I'm hearing 5 years, $27 million. $5,400,000 per season. Not terrible, considering a lot of estimates had him going over the $6 million mark. Funny that a few weeks before the start of free agency, Souray was one of the hottest commodities on the ...
